Susan's Story

It all started when the horse she had just mounted tried to bite her. Susan was at her top weight of 264 and was going horseback riding with her sister. The moment she got on the horse, it turned its head and nipped at her. She knew at that point that something had to be done. Overweight since she was 9 years old, Susan had had enough of the obese lifestyle. She was tired of her weight preventing her from doing what she wanted to do and having the constant feeling of not fitting in.

After finally admitting that diets would never work for her, Susan had weight loss surgery on June 3, 2008. She is now 104 pounds lighter and is thrilled with her new life. Although she had always tried to be active despite her weight, Susan can now enjoy everything life has to offer – from walking her dog, to dragon boat rowing, to being able to sit in an airplane seat with her bag on the seat next to her.

But the biggest reward came partway though her weight loss when her 70-pound, 7-year-old great nephew didn’t recognize her at first. Then after asking her how much weight she had lost he exclaimed, “Aunt Susie, you lost me!”
