Patient Success Stories
Charles's and Kathy's Story
Charles and Kathy suffered greatly due to their weight. Charles had major medical problems: he was an insulin-dependent diabetic and he took two blood pressure medications and three cholesterol medications every day. He couldn't bend over to tie his shoes and couldn't see his feet when he looked down. Kathy had been heavy since birth and was tried every diet that was on the market to lose weight. She would lose the weight but would also gain it back, and then some. She was so miserable inside, yet she would put on a happy face to hide her sadness about her weight. Charles was a skinny kid until his early forties when he went over 200 lbs and couldn't get near it again.
Kathy opted to try weight loss surgery and on September 5, 2006 had a gastric bypass. She has lost 117 pounds. Charles had gastric bypass on December 8, 2008 and has lost 106 pounds.
Today, Charles and Kathy have a quality of life that they never dreamed was possible. They are both get to do all kinds of fun things now, such as walking everywhere (sometimes miles at a time), sitting on the floor and playing with their grandkids and taking the kids swimming. Also, they are both capable of doing more quality and quantity exercise and walking everywhere (sometimes miles at a time). Charles goes skin diving and sings semi-professionally now. The weight loss has enabled him to hold his breath longer, improving both his singing and his snorkeling abilities. They feel younger, look younger and are very grateful for all the benefits that the surgery has brought them.
