    Anxiety

    Anxiety is a common consequence of living and managing life’s conflicting needs and demands. It is a normal reaction to stress and can motivate people to work harder to attain goals and solve problems.

    Symptoms of Anxiety

    Healthy coping skills can be diminished and work and home life negatively impacted when the feeling of anxiety is excessive and irrational fears become disabling. It is disabling if the anxiety lasts most of a day and it is difficult to control the sense of worry.

    Other signs of severe anxiety include the following symptoms:

    • Feeling restless, keyed-up or on edge
    • Being easily fatigued
    • Difficulty concentrating
    • Irritability
    • Muscle tension
    • Sleep disturbances

    Types of Anxiety Disorders

    The following are all types of anxiety disorders:

    • Generalized Anxiety Disorder
    • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
    • Panic Disorder
    • Acute-Stress Disorder
    • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
    • Social Anxiety Disorder
    • Disturbing Nightmares or Flashbacks

    Treatment for Anxiety

    If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms it is important to seek treatment because prolonged states of anxiety can affect physiological health and interfere with the quality of your life.

    Anxiety is very treatable and there are a variety of psychotherapeutic and pharmacological interventions.
