    Adult Day Partial Hospitalization Program

A level of care between psychiatric outpatient therapy and inpatient hospitalization.

Alta Bates Summit Medical Center offers four outpatient partial hospitalization programs (PHP) to meet the unique needs of our patients.

Each program features a supportive environment with group therapies designed to stabilize and reduce symptoms, improve social and functional living skills, and transition patients back into the community.

It is during our groups that many patients feel for the first time that they are connected to others with similar issues. Patients leave the program with a heightened awareness of their symptoms and new skills which they can use to help prevent a relapse.

    Program Components

    • Psychiatric evaluation and biweekly check-in
    • Group therapy
    • Social work, including family meetings, groups, and discharge planning

    Our Groups Include:

    • Short-Term Insight-Oriented Therapy
    • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
    • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (Mindfulness groups)
    • Art Therapy
    • Drama Therapy
    • Life Skills
    • Goal Setting/Tracking Groups
    • Chemical Dependency

Patients with substance abuse problems must be sober, have a commitment to recovery, and be willing to further support treatment with outside recovery meetings.

    Levels of Care

Patients usually start at the Partial Hospitalization Program level of care (Monday-Friday), but as they stabilize they may transition to our 10-hour-per-week Intensive Outpatient Program. From there, they move to care in the community.

Our experienced, multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists, social workers, marriage/family therapists, psychologists, nurses, drama therapists, art therapists, dance therapists, occupational therapists, and registered dietitians ensure that each patient receives compassionate and effective care.
