Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of death for women. According to the American Cancer Society a little less than 1 out of 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer at some time in their lives.
However, the death rate for these women has been declining since about 1990, with larger decreases in women younger than 50. This decrease may be a result of earlier detection through screening, increased awareness, and improved treatment. At this time there are about 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
Here in the Northern California area, the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center’s experienced healthcare team is committed to keeping the declining trend of breast cancer cases going in the right direction…down.
