Treatments and Treatment Teams

Our team of doctors are board certified in medical oncology and hematology. Medical oncology and hematology focus on treating cancer with drugs and other agents that destroy malignant cells and help the body defend itself against the disease.
This important field of medicine continually generates new avenues of exploration and hope. Our doctors are experts in many forms of cancer including cancer of the breast, prostate, colon, lung and blood, as well as multiple myeloma. Our medical oncologists use the most current FDA-approved chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and targeted molecular therapies, and the most recent discoveries in cancer therapies.
Radiation therapy, usually employed as part of a broader treatment strategy, continues to make tremendous strides. Better imaging allows our board certified radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists and radiation therapists to target the disease more precisely. The result is minimally invasive therapy, less damage to healthy tissue and a lower incidence of side effects.
To optimize results, we use the latest, state-of-the-art technologies for radiation therapy. IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) and IGRT (Image Guided Radiation Therapy) deliver pencil-thin beams to target tumors and spare healthy tissue. Automated Respiratory Gating treats liver and lung cancer. Brachytherapy, the implantation of radioactive seeds near tumors, provides yet another option for focused radiation treatment of breast and prostate cancer. Calypso® treatments for prostate cancer uses a GPS-like system to locate and track prostate tumors during treatment.
Zevalin, a form of radioimmunotherapy, is available for the treatment of some lymphomas. Stereotactic brain and body radiotherapy, an advanced highly targeted treatment for tumors of the brain, spine, liver and lung, are also available.
Our gynecologic oncology team is led by board certified physicians in surgical oncology whose expertise includes all gynecologic cancers: uterus, cervix, vagina, ovary, fallopian tube, vulva, and endometrial.
Supportive oncology care is cancer care that focuses on all facets of cancer and its impact on you, rather than just focusing on the disease. It encompasses symptom management, psychosocial support and interventions designed to lessen the challenges associated with both the cancer and the treatment’s side effects, as well as to nurture you.
Navigating the complex world of insurance can be a daunting task. That’s why there are full-time financial counselors available to talk on the phone and review your treatment plan as it relates to insurance coverage.
