In keeping to our mission of decreasing the risk of cancer through early detection, risk assessment and education while providing support to those touched by cancer, we offer the community free educational classes and support groups as listed below.

Breast Cancer Support Group
Receiving a diagnosis of breast cancer or having a recurrence can be extremely stressful. Not only may you feel confused, vulnerable and uninformed, you may also feel very much alone. The Breast Cancer Support Group provides not only emotional support but serves as a safe place for women to talk about their fears, their treatment successes, relationships or just to listen to other women who are living with breast cancer. Meets 1st and 3rd Wednesday monthly from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. To register and for directions, please call 510-869-8833.

Living with Cancer: A support group for patients and caregivers
Whether you or your loved one are just entering treatment or have completed treatment, there are likely many concerns and thoughts regarding diagnosis and prognosis. In this safe, compassionate space, we share our hopes and fears and find the courage and support to face challenges, large and small. A clinical psychotherapist leads the group. Suggested for both family members and survivors. Meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, 2:45 – 4:00 pm. Markstein Cancer Education and Prevention Services, Summit Campus, Providence Pavilion, 3100 Summit Street, Oakland. Pre-registration required. Please call 510-869-8833. This group meets back to back with Nourishing the Body Mind Connection - a stress management and relaxation group.

“Look Good...Feel Better”
Collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the Markstein Cancer Education and Prevention Services, this free program offers a monthly workshop to help women offset appearance related changes from cancer treatment. Each two-hour, hands-on workshop includes a skin care/make-up application lesson, demonstration of options for dealing with hair loss and nail care techniques. Meets at Markstein Education and Prevention Services the first Monday of every month from 1:30 – 3:30 pm. Pre-registration required. Please call 510-869-8833.

Man to Man/US TOO: Prostate Cancer Support Group
A group meeting for men with prostate cancer which provides support, information and education. No one needs to face prostate cancer alone. Partners welcome. Meets the 4th Tuesday of every month, 6:15 - 7:45 pm. Markstein Cancer Education and Prevention Services, Providence Pavilion, 3100 Summit Street, Oakland. No Charge. Pre-registration required. PC in the City: for Prostate Cancer Patient/Survivor
PC in the City strives to meet the needs of men who may have significant quality of life concerns about sexuality and intimacy, managing work, parenting or financial responsibility issues with a diagnosis of cancer. The group offers an opportunity to discuss such concerns with other like-minded men. If you are newly diagnosed and not decided upon a treatment, this might be the group for you! The group meets the second Tuesday of every month from 6:30 - 8:00 pm and is facilitated by a prostate cancer survivor trained by the American Cancer Society.
