Staying Well:
Our Web Videos Can Teach You Healthy Cooking
If you want to cook healthier dishes but aren’t quite sure how to go about it or where to find the time, here’s a handy solution: visit the Wellness for Life video web page to sample the 10-minute how-to demos/recipes and excerpts from Alta Bates Summit’s weekly Wellness for Life cooking classes in Berkeley. The chef is Jamie Dougherty, a popular Bay Area nutritionist and certified holistic health counselor. She serves up a user-friendly blend of tips on cooking techniques, out-of-the-ordinary recipes and sound nutritional advice—and still manages to sprinkle in her own sense of humor while she’s at it.
Of course, once you’ve had a taste of Jamie’s recipes online, you’ll want to actually attend her Wellness for Life classes on the third Tuesday of every month as well as other classes in the ongoing, free series. On first Tuesdays, classes are taught by personal chefs from Bauman College; Sutter Health coaches present second Tuesdays’ sessions on various aspects of wellness; and on fourth Tuesdays, participants are treated to guided tours of Whole Foods Market in Berkeley, a partner in the project. Call (510) 869-6737 or e-mail carrole@sutterhealth.org for a monthly list of topics or to register (space is limited).
Wellness for Life classes are held on Tuesdays at Alta Bates Summit’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Center, 3030 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley.
