Every year we have many events featuring updates in breast cancer research, community lectures and other special opportunities to learn more about breast cancer. Included below is a general list of the events we host annually. Please call the Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center for detailed information about any of the following events at (510) 869-8735.
Spring: Young Women’s Education Day An afternoon of games and activities designed to educated young women (age 14 - 23) about the importance of breast health for themselves and their family members.
Spring: Patient Navigation Conference A meeting of Bay Area agencies that have breast cancer support programs. The objective is to develop a network of similar programs.
June: Leap of Faith Annual Fundraiser This annual event is a tribute to Faith Fancher, a local TV newscaster who invited the public into her life as she went through the treatment of breast cancer - twice. This important event is co-sponsored by the Alta Bates Summit Foundation and the Friends of Faith, and honors Faith's memory by gifting the "Leap of Faith Award" to an individual who has made a difference to Bay Area women facing breast cancer. Scott’s Restaurant at Jack London Square in Oakland generously hosts this annual fundraiser. The event also includes entertainment and a silent auction, the benefits of which go to support the Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center.
October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month The month of October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and several events are planned each year. Community lectures and other events take place at the Breast Center and at various locations in our area. The events may change from year to year, but the month of October is always filled with breast cancer awareness and education.
