Our Treatment Teams
The medical staff at the Comprehensive Cancer Center is a group of highly trained cancer experts – medical oncologists, hematologists, radiation oncologists, a clinical psychologist, Oncology Nursing Society Certified Registered Nurses, clinical assistants, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists, nutritionists, and medical social workers.
Together we all work with one goal in mind: to ease the patient’s journey by minimizing the time spent in treatment and by supporting all aspects of the patient experience.
Our Medical Oncology Team
Our medical oncology team is led by board certified physicians in oncology and/or hematology, whose expertise includes all cancers and blood disorders. Although we provide broad-based up-to-date care for all cancers, our physicians have particularly strong interests and skills in breast, colorectal, gynecological, lung, and prostate cancers. The full spectrum of hematologic disorders are treated at the Cancer Center, however, patients with lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma or coagulation problems make up the majority of the patients we see.
Our physician teams are complemented by nurses (Registered Nurses, Oncology Certified Nurses, and Licensed Vocational Nurses) who meet with each patient for an initial consultation. The nursing staff remain deeply involved in all apsects of patient care - from diagnosis through treatment and even long-term follow-up after treatment ends. Most physicians have a designated nurse who provides teaching and support at the Cancer Center and through home phone calls to patients and their families. These designated nurses, or practice nurses, serve as liaisons to all other support staff and social workers at our center. They arrange for services from other departments, such as visiting nurses and physical therapy.
Each physician-nurse pair is also supported by a dedicated secretary and scheduler. This committed team makes patient contact and support easier for our cancer patients.
Our Radiation Oncology Team
Our radiation oncology team is led by four physicians, all board certified in oncology, whose expertise includes external beam therapy, HDR brachytherapy, and permanent prostate seed implantation.
As with the medical oncology teams, the radiation oncology nurses provide teaching, management advice, and support throughout the entire radiation treatment and follow-up periods. The radiation oncology nurses work closely with the medical oncology nurses on a daily basis to ensure communication about each patient's care. The radiation oncology teams work extensively with pediatric cancer patients as well as with adults.
Our Gynecologic Oncology Team
Our gynecologic oncology team is led by board certified physicians in surgical oncology whose expertise includes all gynecologic cancers: uterus, cervix, vagina, ovary, fallopian tube, vulva, and endometrial.
