Acute Rehabilitation Program
Our acute rehabilitation program is a highly structured, intensive interdisciplinary program intended for patients with significant functional impairments. Our approach provides patients with a supportive, structured and coordinated rehab program designed to improve the ability to perform daily living tasks.
Patients can face difficult challenges when recovering from the debilitating consequences of severe traumas, illnesses, or disorders. When patients come to our Acute Rehabilitation Program, they meet those challenges in a caring, comprehensive and intensive program designed to increase independence and restore self-determination.
Outpatient Rehabilitation Program
Helping patients regain their independence to overcome an injury or illness is the goal of the
Alta Bates Summit Outpatient Rehabilitation Program.
Our high-quality, interdisciplinary approach gives patients individualized, hands-on care, education, and training for improved function. Patients throughout the Bay Area come to this highly trusted, long-established rehabilitation program.
Return to Work and Injury Management Services
At Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, we understand that injured employees decrease productivity and increase worker’s compensation costs. We also recognize that a positive relationship between industry and medicine is critical in today’s worker’s compensation arena. So, we’ve developed a comprehensive injury management program that helps prevent injuries, evaluates and trains employees, and quickly and safely returns injured employees back to work.
Hospital-Based Rehabilitation Services
During the initial phase of rehabilitation, our therapists work together with case managers, social workers, acute care nursing staff, and family members to evaluate a patient’s current condition and determine subsequent levels of rehabilitation care.
By providing patients the level of care they need and closely monitoring their progress,
we help them get their lives back on track as quickly as possible.
Brain Injury Program
Patients recovering from brain injuries find a pathway of healing, opportunity, personal renewal, and lasting independence through our Brain Injury Program. With a focus on relearning activities of daily living, our program includes individualized behavior-management techniques, family involvement and education, and progressive therapy. We strive to maximize each patient’s potential for recovery.

Ranked among the Top 5% in the nation, our Stroke Center is dedicated to quick response, advanced treatment and comprehensive rehabilitation services that span all three medical center campuses.
Outpatient Orthopedic Rehabilitation
When you have a physical injury, your focus is to get back to living your life. So you want rehabilitation services that can get you there as quickly as possible.
When you come to Alta Bates Summit Orthopedic Rehabilitation Services, you’ll work with an experienced team using a creative, individualized approach to address your specific orthopedic problem. We emphasize therapeutic exercise for orthopedic illness or injury, ultimately helping you to get better faster.
(DCHC) Disabled Community Health Clinic
People with disabilities often face complex medical and rehabilitation hurdles. Care needs can be difficult to determine and often change over time. At the Disabled Community Health Clinic (DCHC), we understand these complex needs, assess and coordinate medical care resources, and provide medical treatment to help our patients regain their health and independence.
Outpatient Neurological Rehabilitation Services
Recovering from a neurological injury or illness is a demanding process for patients and their families. Our compassionate team of rehabilitation professionals works together to help patients face this challenge and improve their cognitive, communication, and physical abilities and return to a sense of normalcy in their lives. Families are an integral part of planning for care.
Outpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Services
At Outpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Services, our caring professionals understand the challenges that families face when a child has physical or developmental disabilities. Our interdisciplinary team of professionals provides the family with support and guidance throughout the therapeutic process.
Our therapists and developmental specialists assess each child’s developmental needs, set appropriate goals and create an individualized intervention plan and a home treatment program. Working together, the team coordinates care for children with multiple needs among their physical, occupational, and speech therapies. We stress parent/caregiver involvement, training and education for the entire family. Additionally, we provide information and referrals to community resources, thereby increasing a child’s potential for success.
Skilled Nursing Facilities
Recovering from orthopedic, cardiac, neurologic conditions or surgical procedures can mean a long journey of inpatient rehabilitation to relearn how to function independently. For many, the inpatient recovery process leads to a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) where patients receive rehabilitation services and the education they need prior to returning home.
