Technology Defined
The following definitions are provided to enhance your understanding of the various surgical methods we perform. Talk to your physician to identify the technology that’s best for your needs.
General (Open) Surgery: Open Surgery gives the surgery team a direct view and greater access to the surgical site.
Laser Surgery: Laser Surgery is a broad term, and includes many types of laser technologies. Generally, laser surgery offers pin-pointed treatment to affected areas that require precision such as the eye or heart.
Minimally Invasive Surgery: Minimally Invasive techniques provide optimal outcomes due to small incisions, a rapid healing process, short hospital stay, and fast return to normal activities.
Robotic Surgery: Robotic Surgery is a refined variation of Laparoscopic Surgery. Performed remotely by a surgeon at a computerized workstation, the surgeon’s fingers direct the movement of the surgical instruments through master controls. Small incisions, reduced blood loss, and a short hospital stay are some of the benefits to the patient. Increased dexterity, enhanced precision, and improved access and visibility of the surgical site are some of the benefits to the surgeon.
