Merritt Pavilion Facts
Alta Bates Summit Medical Center’s new Merritt Pavilion offers a calming and healing environment - continuing a nearly 110-year tradition of providing exceptional patient care to our community. The pavilion offers spectacular panoramic views of the East Bay and San Francisco.
Patients and their Families are our Highest Priority
Designed with the healing and comfort of our patients and their families in mind, each of the 238 private patient rooms is filled with natural light. The spacious rooms allow us to provide a wide variety of bedside services. Understanding the important role family members play in the recovery process, we’ve incorporated ample visiting space and overnight accommodations. Room amenities include large showers, recliners or sofa beds and a flat-panel TV entertainment system that offers on-demand movies, music and health-related programs.
The pavilion is equipped with the latest technology, ensuring the highest level of medical care and patient safety. We’ve also incorporated ‘high touch’ features inside and out – to promote healing and calm on every level. From soothing colors and gardens, soft architectural elements and hushed hallways to a dedicated staff caring for patients with compassion and nationally recognized expertise.
Our nationally recognized Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation Program is rated in the top two percent nationwide for clinical outcomes. Each private room is ADA accessible and equipped with overhead patient lifts for the safety and comfort of patients and staff. In the over 12,000 square foot rehabilitation treatment area, skilled therapists work with patients daily. A state-of-the-art and unique patient lift system mounted on special ceiling tracks, enhances the mobility options for patients receiving therapy.
Our patients have access to our beautiful therapy garden, featuring specially designed paths, with various surfaces and levels. Integral to the continuum of care, the garden offers patients and their therapist opportunities to practice moving around in the real-world environment.
Commitment to Earth Friendly Design and Earthquake Safety
From the roof top to deep into the earth, patients are safe and secure in our new pavilion knowing it is targeted for LEED Silver Certification and incorporates sustainable strategies for energy use, lighting, water and material use, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and contributing to a healthier environment. The building meets and exceeds the seismic safety requirements of Senate Bill 1953, designed to ensure the safety of California hospitals in the event of a major earthquake.
Patients and visitors won’t worry about parking with our new 1,067 space parking structure. With seven levels, the garage features secured access, an open-air design, screened by trellis walls and vines, beautiful planted areas and an outdoor area for quiet rest.
