Female Interviewer: Alta Bates Summit Medical Center presents Experience Matters. Alta Bates Summit advances cancer treatment with the Bay Area's only TomoTherapy Unit. Dr. Valery Uhl, Director of Radiation Services.

Dr. Valerie Uhl: TomoTherapy incorporates a CT scanner with a top of the line linear accelerator, incorporating some of the highest level of accuracy in radiation called IG/IMRT and that stands for image-guided, intensity-modulated radiation therapy. We're using radiation therapy very precisely to hone in on cancers and treat them to high doses, giving the minimal side effects.

Interviewer: TomoTherapy allows for 360 degrees of treatment.

Dr. Uhl: Because you're able to actually treat 360 degrees continuously, you're able to hone in on those tumors, maximize the dose to the tumors, minimize the dose to normal structures to the highest level of precision radiation therapy.

Interviewer: TomoTherapy at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center quite literally runs rings around cancer. When it comes to your health, experience matters. Learn more at www.altabatessummit.org, a member of the Sutter Health Family.
