    Nutrition and Weight Control

    Our Outpatient Nutrition Counseling offers individual nutrition and diet education by a Registered Dietitian upon referral from a physician.

    Dietary advice is offered for most medical conditions, including:

    • Diabetes Mellitus
    • Weight Reduction
    • Pre and Post Gastric Bypass Surgery
    • Celiac Disease (Gluten-free diet)
    • Heart Disease
    • Unplanned weight loss
    • Gastrointestinal disorders
    • Hypertension
    Some health insurance plans will pay for this service, others will not. Please call your insurance plan to verify coverage. Call (510) 655-4000 Ext. 2970 for an appointment. The Fax for physician referral is (510) 869-6755.

    We also offer nutrition counseling for adult and adolescent women at our Womens' Health Center in Lafayette.

    Our registered dietician provides services including:
    • Nutritional assessment
    • Basic nutrition counseling
    • Nutrition counseling for medical problems
    • Counseling for disordered eating patterns

      Nutrition and Diabetes

      Our Diabetes Center offers diabetes education to learn to control blood sugar levels. A physician referral is required. Services include:

      • Monthly educational meetings
      • Personal consultation with certified Diabetes educators
      • Diabetes Support Groups
      Many insurance plans will cover this service. Please call your insurance plan to verify coverage.

      Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous (FA)

      FA is a program based on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. There are no dues, weigh-ins or fees.
      Dates: Thursdays
      Time: 7:00 to 8:30 pm
      and
      Date: Sundays
      Time: 8:30 to 10 am
      Place: Summit Merritt Pavilion, Fir Rooms 1 and 2

      New Beginnings Support Group

      Information and support group for people who have had or are considering weight-loss surgery and their families.
      Dates: Second Thursdays, 6:00 to 7:30 pm
      Place: Summit Campus, Providence Pavilion, Cafeteria Conference Room, 3100 Summit Street, Oakland
