Dr. Steven Kang: My name is Steve Kang. I'm one of the Cardiac Electrophysiologists at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. Atrial fibrillation is the most common abnormal heart rhythm in the world and simply what it is; it's an abnormal heart rhythm coming from the top of the heart or the atrial chambers. The best way to prevent atrial fibrillation is to live a heart healthy lifestyle and very simple things that everybody should do, regardless of atrial fibrillation or other diseases; we should remain active, exercise regularly. We should watch what we eat. If we develop a disease that puts us at risk for atrial fibrillation, like high blood pressure or diabetes, we should seek out a doctor and get it controlled and evaluated as soon as possible and as best as we can.
