Interviewer: Here's an important heart healthy tip from one of the heart experts at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. Dr. Robert Greene: Hello, I'm Dr. Robert Greene. The [Oakland] A's look in great shape, fit and ready for the season. The question I have is what kind of shape are the fans in. Are we ready for hikes up to the second deck and races to the overflow parking lot? If the answer is no, then we have to get on it. As a cardiologist, I tell my patients the best thing they can do for their heart is regular exercise. Choose an activity you like, walk, swim, garden, or even play baseball. Just a 30 minute walk every day can reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke. This is because exercise increases your good cholesterol, regulates blood sugar, lowers blood pressure and helps maintain your best weight. Exercise also increases your feel good hormones, known as endorphins. So this is Dr. Robert Greene saying don't put it off. Regular exercise helps your heart and makes you feel even better. Interviewer: This heart healthy tip is brought to you by Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, a member of the Sutter Health family.
