    Volunteer Department

Walk into any Alta Bates Summit campus, and one of the very first people you’ll see is a Volunteer. Volunteers serve as assistants in the Registration Department, helping in the processing of hundreds of patients each month; Volunteers greet everyone approaching the Lobby Information Desk, answering questions, locating patients, and serving as escorts to treatment areas; Volunteers push the wheelchairs of new mothers and babies as they leave the hospital to go home; Volunteers help patients with their menus, explain television choices and sooth relatives waiting in the Emergency Rooms.

Volunteers staff three Family Resource Centers, providing calm and quiet oases of comfort for families of surgical patients. Volunteers also help visitors select perfect gifts from our beautiful Gift Shops; cuddle newborns in the NICU; run errands for nursing units to the lab and medical records and render other needed assistance for both patients and staff. Behind the scenes, a Special Projects Volunteer group enjoy each other’s company while putting together thousands of patient charts; and taking care of departmental requests for assistance with one-time or continuing events and ad hoc requests. There are more than forty services to choose from.

Volunteers reap the benefits of programs designed specifically around the concept of staff and volunteer customer service and teamwork.
