Female Interviewer: Alta Bates Summit Medical Center presents Experience Matters. Early diagnosis of lung disease dramatically increases survival rates. Dr. Russell Stanten, Chief of Thoracic Surgery, Alta Bates Summit, on the iLogic System.

Dr. Stanten: The iLogic system is a new machine and method for diagnosing peripheral lung lesions that allows pulmonary doctors to make a preoperative diagnosis of these nodules. If it is lung cancer, our ability to treat it at an early stage can lead to a 90 percent cure rate as opposed to what has historically been a much lower cure rate. This new technology provides us with a GPS guidance system to allow the diagnosis of these pulmonary nodules. This is a remarkable translation of this satellite technology down to the use at the bedside with an individual patient, and this has advanced our treatment and care for these patients.
